Child Care Resource Consultant Services
Description:
Community Living Kingston has traveled a generation since providing an accepted and quality segregated pre-school called Peter Pan. This shift in the late 1980's to inclusion for pre-schoolers has not only improved their experiences and life, but has also had an impact on inclusion in the school system. Parents seeing their daughter or son in an inclusive day care or nursery school would not then settle for anything less than the same when the child entered the school system. Today's services for pre-schoolers with developmental delays encompass supports by a Resource Consultant in the child's neighborhood pre-school setting. Services are designed to see to it that each child is given an equal opportunity to learn according to their needs. Our Resource Consultants assist the regular caregivers and staff to modify existing programs in order to meet the requirements of children with special needs while including them in everyday activities. Resource Consultants coordinate the intervention of other professionals as warranted and assist in the transition to kindergarten. They also provide support to families by providing information and service coordination.
